Do we need to know? ‘The things you need to know’

Among the likes of other topics, things you need to know is one step ahead. It is with no doubt that this is the best topic to start a career for making YouTube videos or writing a blog. Why? It is easy to answer. When we come across the title, we start questioning a part of our thought — Have I been missing something? And this is followed by the click on the video. Regardless of some things we are already aware of, we wait, for one which will be unique to us, thinking we will be a step ahead of everyone. This is where our leverage starts falling, and without realizing it — we miss the opportunity of learning the first thing which is — making decisions for ourselves.

The best advice is to not give any advice at all

As strongly as I follow, The best advice is to not give any advice at all. But when it comes to writing a blog, I believe the opposite is true. Why? It is because, I see blogging as a medium to share opinions — not advising. I refrain from writing about what someone should be doing because again, including myself, no one likes to be indoctrinated with the likes of others.

Why knowing — ‘The things you need to know’ is not necessary? I know it contradicts the sentence before, but I would try my best to keep it different from those lines.

Going beyond the order of things

There are a lot of creators nowadays and after following the trends, I have come across a lot of repetitive content. We cannot deny the fact that we have wired ourselves to look at the same things differently — but thinking out-of-the-box, should not be the case too often. Before I started reading classic literature, I was new. People around me read a lot of self-help books. You would call me naïve if I told you, I found the covers of the books esoteric, but my habit started taking shape day by day from the likes of the cover to the story. How is this relevant? It is. Before I started reading classics, I was reading self-help, but after a few days, I dropped reading. Why? It was because I had figured out what I wanted to read.

(Read: I am not saying reading self-help is a waste of time). It was by going beyond the order of things, I found out that, the things I found interesting and wanted to know more about. How was I able to do that? Let see.

Knowing what I need to know and what are the things important to me comes from the act of taking decisions. Back then, learning spreadsheet was important to me because I knew, I did not have a strong foundation in excel and I was determined to managing my finances by myself. This is a good skill which a lot of YouTube videos talk about, but there is one thing which we often miss while learning a skill — is it important for me? or, if it is important, is it at this moment?

The first step towards becoming independent begins by thinking independently.

Let us consider the same from another example. A lot of YouTube videos talk about having a passive income. But is that necessary? It is something we need to find out! How do we do that? We talk a lot about becoming independent but the first step towards becoming independent begins by thinking independently. Wait! again, thinking out-of-the-box is not what I am driving you towards. What I am telling is to — take decisions for yourself by yourself. This is another way to find out the things you need to know more about, for yourself. Easier said than done? Well, when were things ever easy. We are always in the process of making things easier for ourselves every day, and taking decisions is one of the many ways, I make things easy for myself.

Working every day itself teaches us a lot of things we need to know

Instead of streamlining our life, we start complicating it. How do we do this? By following the likes of others. But out of all one solution, for streamlining things is by maintaining a journal. I insist you to read this piece I worked on recently — because I approach bullet journaling …. (read the blog to know more). Among other things, I would conclude saying that long before we watch the things we need to know — we know it ourselves. How? Working every day itself teaches us a lot of things we need to know. Learning from the experiences of people is completely different than — following what others want you to know.

If you liked the piece — hit the clap button and share your approach, for everyone in the comment box.
